Familiar Territory

Backs up against the wall, it's how the Red Sox enjoy living in the playoffs. Year after year they decide to ultimately push themselves to the brink and prove to themselves and others they are much better than what has previously transpired. So, here we are once again. In a 2-0 hole to the Halos with an anemic offense and pitching that has been good, but not great.

What may you ask is the prescription for a fever such as this? A little Fenway home cooking. The Sox have consistently held one of the best home records in baseball for the past 6 or 7 years and it's no fluke. The team is built offensively to play in this park 81+ home games a year, the fans are among the best in baseball, etc. Add one large green monster, combine ingredients, stir thoroughly, serve accordingly. Ultimately, what I am trying to say is this series is far from over.

Lets take a stroll down memory lane...

1999 - Sox go down 2-0 to the Indians. Insert epic comeback with a 23-7 game 4 drubbing and Super Pedro shuts down the Tribe with a game 5 series clincher bullpen appearance.

2003 - Quick 2-0 hole to the A's, complete with a bunt squeeze in game 2 to push the Sox to the brink. No sweat, cue the Trot Nixon heroics and a classic Derek Lowe playoff performance and the A's are disposed of.

2004 - No explanation necessary. Yankees choke, theeeeeeeeee Yankees CHOKE! Sox win first World Series in 86 years. All is right in the world.

2007 - Sox win the first game against the Tribe in the ALCS, then proceed to lose 3 straight and are right back in a familiar position. Once again, Schilling and Beckett combine to push a game 7 and business is taken care of. Onto the World Series for their second title in 3 years.

And here we stand on the precipice of another epic comeback or an epic fail. The Angels have motivation and momentum on their side; however, the Sox have the home crowd and a familiar scenario. I guarantee you right now that they will not fall 3 straight, this team is too good and too experienced to let that happen. Of course, I could always eat these words for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, if they decide to just mail it in. Afterall, we did lose the two in Anaheim with only our best pitchers on the bump. God save us Clay Buchholz!
